ZOE POUNDER, a well-known DJ and promoter of Techno parties and has been contributing her talents to dance music for over 20 years. Whether playing music or promoting, she likes to bring together the old skool sounds of acid and combine it with Techno. At the tender age of 13, the exciting sound of hardcore breaks and acid house music first caught her attention. Too young to go to raves, Zoe started collecting mix tapes of DJ artists from a local club called Sterns and underground warehouse raves. She listened to a broad range of music along the way, but when she first heard techno, she became completely hooked and started travelling to parties, raves and festivals all over the country.
Nowadays a local to Brighton, her musical journey actually began in and around the Portsmouth Techno scene, where she lived for 10 years and was first inspired by Ian Void’s ‘Geushky’ Techno nights in the late 90’s. She just couldn’t get enough of listening to other artists such as Billy Nasty and Dave Clarke. Zoe Pounder soon became a Techno fanatic and started DJing and promoting at clubs and bars in Portsmouth. Her first venture into promoting night began with an underground event called ‘Obsession’ in Fareham. The nights were a massive success and led on to promoting various parties along the way, including the renowned ‘Techno Therapy’ nights, booking artists from Chris Liberator, Aaron Liberator, DAVE The Drummer, The Geezer, DDR, Rackitt, Ian Void and Sterling Moss. Following on from this, she joined forces with Eski (Ben Stott/Oblivion) to organise events at atwo room music establishment, booking the likes of Mark Archer [Altern 8] and Slipmatt.
Zoe is now back on the promoter tip with Eski after a short break and their next venture is called ‘Brighton 303’ repping acid house/breaks and techno with everything else in between. As a DJ Zoe stays true to vinyl and loves collecting and buying records in Brighton where there are many record shops still helping people fulfill their collections. “I love playing vinyl and thought the days of actually going to a record store and spending hours there, like I used to, were long gone.” Zoe has played across the South UK in places such as: Brighton for (Tribal Medicine),Bournemouth (Technosis), Portsmouth, Southampton, London (Turnmills, Escala Nightclub, 414 at Elemental events) as well as internationally at Acid Resistance Festival in Columbia, Rocket Festival in Spain, No Mans Land, Captivate and Illusive Festivals. Currently Zoe plays as a resident at her event, Brighton 303, teaming up withBrighton’s biggest techno night Sicknote, at the Volks nightclub where she hosts a room. She has also appeared on radio shows such as Code South (Brighton), Optical Radio (London) and Pure Radio (Holland). Zoe Pounder is certainly a positive and energetic female force on the underground dance scene, who certainly knows how to party, promote and DJ!!
